BOTOX is approved by the FDA for cosmetic
use. Botox® is used to soften or eliminate dynamic wrinkles.
Botox®
can eliminate that "always angry" look or that "tired" appearance
caused by dynamic wrinkles. Botox® is also used to reduce underarm
sweating, to treat migraine headaches, to stop eye twitching, and to
tighten a double chin.
Many wrinkles are actually creases that have been worn into the skin
by making the same expression thousands of times. These "expression
lines", often called frown lines or crow's feet, are due to the
contraction of a muscle under the skin in that area. We have known
for years that surgically cutting that muscle will improve the
wrinkle.
A Botox® treatment is a simple, non-surgical procedure that smoothes
the deep, persistent lines between your brows that develop over
time. One 10-minute treatment -- a few tiny injections -- relaxes
the muscles that cause those lines to form and keeps them relaxed up
to 4 months. The results are dramatic and apparent within days. In
clinical trials, nearly 90% of the men and women surveyed rated the
improvement in their brow lines as moderate to better. For many,
Botox® virtually "erases" these lines.
Botox® is a purified protein toxin produced by the clostridium botulinum bacteria. Although
Botox® is a toxin, there have been no
serious side effects. This is because, for the treatment described,
it is used in extremely small amounts and does not spread throughout
the body.
Unlike surgery, Botox® is fast, simple, and minimally invasive, with
no downtime or recovery. Most people return directly to work or
normal activity following treatment. Within days, they report
looking more natural and relaxed.
